Typical applications for UV disinfection within pharmaceutical companies, labs, biotech companies, and manufacturers of personal care products are in a loop water system for the facility, or the actual process water pulled from the loop. The water in these applications will be ultrapure water, free of bacteria and organic contaminants.  According to the USP the TOC level needs to be below 500 ppb.

 

The 500 ppb TOC requirement is relatively easy to achieve with RO water. However, the presence of some bacteria and TOC can lead to biofilm growth throughout the piping system. Use of Reflex UV technology has demonstrated the ability to address any planktonic bacteria that may enter the system, and reduce TOC levels to less than 5 ppb, denying the food necessary for biofilm accumulation, which results in a plumbing system that requires less cleaning and sanitization.
